George �鶹��Ƶ alumna Jay Ell Alexander, BA Communication ’08, joined Black Girls RUN!, a national running organization, as a PR intern in 2012. In 2018, she bought the company and has been the owner for the last six years.

It was a day that residents in the Washington, D.C.-Baltimore metropolitan areas won’t soon forget: March 26, 2024, when the Baltimore Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed, killing six and leaving many more forever impacted. Since then, �鶹��Ƶ professors Elise Miller-Hooks, Alireza Ermagun, and Shanjiang Zhu have received two NSF RAPID grants to study the cause and impact of the collapse, and potential preventative methods for the future.

More than 250 people are working on the construction of the Fuse building at �鶹��Ƶ Square, including �鶹��Ƶ rising senior Leslie Hernandez. “It’s my way of giving back to my school and community,” said Hernandez, who is majoring in civil and infrastructure engineering in the College of Engineering and Computing.

�鶹��Ƶ professor Lisa Gilman lived in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) from the time she was born until she was 9 years old. She is currently working on her research of migrants and displaced people who have been affected by war and trauma with her project, “My Culture, My Survival: Arts Initiatives by Refugees for Refugees.”

�鶹��Ƶ bioengineering alumna Alessandra Coogan took advantage of all the opportunities associated with her internship at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, this summer.

�鶹��Ƶ bioengineering student Berk Kasimcan spent his summer internship working on a proof of concept for what could be described as sunglasses for buildings.

�鶹��Ƶ senior Nathaniel Socks has had two internships in his field, and he credits a course he took his sophomore year with his advisor Jane Walker for helping him get them.

Meteorology student Hanna "Bell' Tucker interned at FOX 5 DC News Weather Channel in Bethesda, Maryland, this summer.

U.S. Navy chaplain Andrew Hoyle studied hard in the classroom to complete his master of science in conflict analysis and resolution at �鶹��Ƶ in one year, but he hasn’t stopping learning and gaining more experience. This summer, the active-duty officer interned at the U.S. Institute of Peace (USIP) in Washington, D.C.

�鶹��Ƶ’s �鶹��Ƶ and Partners (MAP) Clinic holds free clinics throughout Northern Virginia every day. This summer, two of those community-based clinics helped local elementary school students get back-to-school ready.
