�鶹��Ƶ’s Potomac Science Center on Belmont Bay is a destination for environmental science research within the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Slightly inland from shore, on a recent day in early March, the retention pond next to the center needed to be emptied to make changes to the drainage system. The �鶹��Ƶ Nation was ready to rescue some of the creatures affected.

With state-of-the-art teaching labs and fabrication facilities, the Life Sciences Engineering Building (LSEB) lets students and faculty get their hands dirty in this brand-new multiuse active learning space. The ribbon cutting didn’t officially happen until March 27, but LSEB already experienced a housewarming.

Over spring break, members of the International Relations Policy Task Force visited the U.S.-Mexico border for a firsthand look at immigration issues.

�鶹��Ƶ professor Samantha Viano is leading a multi-university team to assess the impact of school security equipment (SSE) grants on school violence, safety, and related outcomes. The team has received a $1.7 million grant from the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) of the U.S. Department of Justice to support of the project, “The Impact of School Security Equipment on Students and Schools.”

The new College of Visual and Performing Arts special topics course AVT 496 focuses on furniture design and is offered through the university’s School of Art. As a part of the course, the students will tour the National Gallery of Art and put what they’ve learned to practice by identifying and recommending ways to create a more welcoming environment for people to experience the art.

�鶹��Ƶ is pleased to announce Cody W. Edwards as the new dean of the College of Science (COS), effective immediately. Edwards has served as interim dean for COS since July 2024.

�鶹��Ƶ will offer a master of science in artificial intelligence (AI) starting this fall, becoming Virginia’s first public university to offer a stand-alone master’s degree in this field.

Associate Professor Kenneth Strazzeri's innovative teaching methods and curriculum tweaks significantly improved student engagement and success in �鶹��Ƶ's STAT 250 course, resulting in an impressive 80% attendance rate across its sections and a strong foundation in statistical concepts for nearly one thousand students each semester.

Center for Advancing Systems Science and Bioengineering Innovation (CASSBI) refreshed its mission and zeroed in more tightly on its translational research. The new vision of CASSBI is advancing system science and integrating innovation with medical technologies to benefit humanity.

�鶹��Ƶ Assistant Vice President/Director of Athletics Marvin Lewis has announced a contract extension for men's basketball head coach Tony Skinn, BA Communication '06, through the 2029-30 season.
