Started as a way to give more women a seat at the publishing table, "So to Speak", �鶹��Ƶ's feminist journal for art and writing, gives creatives with diverse perspectives and backgrounds a place to shine.

Gary T. Taylor, MSW ‘15, is destigmatizing mental health support and normalizing therapy in the Black community one barbershop at a time. “Barbershops are this safe space for Black men,” explains Taylor who has been working with local barbershops in the Rappahannock region since 2022 to foster healthy discussions about mental health by educating barbers on “mental health first aid” for their patrons.

Co-founded in 2018 by Trevor Montano, BS Accounting ’00, and Derek Horstmeyer, a professor of finance at the Costello College of Business at �鶹��Ƶ, the Montano Student Investment Fund (SMIF) is an all-equity investment fund administered by finance students at the Costello College of Business.

�鶹��Ƶ hosted CGI leadership, employees, and �鶹��Ƶ alumni for CGI Night at the men’s basketball game against Duquesne at EagleBank Arena on March 2. More than 250 �鶹��Ƶ alumni work at CGI.

Princess Aliyah Pandolfi, BS in Management '04, is the co-founder and executive director of Kashmir World Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation of endangered species through novel technologies, such as autonomous drones and AI.

A �鶹��Ƶ graduate paid for his Schar School master’s degree by working at �鶹��Ƶ—as a policeman. Along the way, Detective Ryan Grant learned research skills while earning the trust of the Patriot community.

During her time at �鶹��Ƶ, �鶹��Ƶ alumna Shrishti Singh has used all the tools the university provides to bring her discovery to the marketplace.

Despite pursuing different degrees within the College of Visual and Performing Arts, each of these alumni found transformative connections during their �鶹��Ƶ experience, impacting their outlook on the world as well as their creative futures.

More than 4,000 students made their way through the Johnson Center’s Dewberry Hall, speaking to 240 potential employers over two days.

Stacey Schwartz works as a digital strategist for the Center for the Arts and the Hylton Performing Arts Center at �鶹��Ƶ. A �鶹��Ƶ alum, Schwartz brought her capstone research project to life when she opened a Free Little Art Gallery (FLAG) in her community.

�鶹��Ƶ alumna Kristen Cavallo was named the Virginia Business Magazine Business Person of 2023, a distinction that recognizes her achievements in growing companies while emphasizing diversity in leadership.

In December, �鶹��Ƶ’s Black Alumni Chapter saluted its history while looking to the future at “A Toast to 20,” a gala celebration of the chapter’s 20th anniversary.
