Despite pursuing different degrees within the College of Visual and Performing Arts, each of these alumni found transformative connections during their �鶹��Ƶ experience, impacting their outlook on the world as well as their creative futures.

More than 4,000 students made their way through the Johnson Center’s Dewberry Hall, speaking to 240 potential employers over two days.

Stacey Schwartz works as a digital strategist for the Center for the Arts and the Hylton Performing Arts Center at �鶹��Ƶ. A �鶹��Ƶ alum, Schwartz brought her capstone research project to life when she opened a Free Little Art Gallery (FLAG) in her community.

�鶹��Ƶ alumna Kristen Cavallo was named the Virginia Business Magazine Business Person of 2023, a distinction that recognizes her achievements in growing companies while emphasizing diversity in leadership.

In December, �鶹��Ƶ’s Black Alumni Chapter saluted its history while looking to the future at “A Toast to 20,” a gala celebration of the chapter’s 20th anniversary.

She’s helped 450 young families achieve higher education goals since 2010. Now Nicole Lynn Lewis, MPP ’06, is Washingtonian of the Year.

�鶹��Ƶ alum Jada Salter has created a feature-length documentary about her grandfather, award-winning composer and songwriter William (Bill) Salter. The film is called "Just the Two of Us" after his Grammy Award-winning hit song.

The legislative session is underway in Virginia’s General Assembly. �鶹��Ƶ’s presence continues to make an impact in Richmond with an increased number of proud �鶹��Ƶ Patriots serving the commonwealth.

Two-time �鶹��Ƶ alum Jamie VanValkenburg directed the Oakton High School Marching Band to victory in the inaugural Metallica marching band competition “For Whom the Band Tolls!”

Shabinaaz Mahdi, BS Accounting ’12, discovered a passion for accounting at the Donald G. Costello College of Business at �鶹��Ƶ. While in school, she was introduced to Baker Tilly, a leading advisory tax and assurance firm, where she has risen through the ranks to become partner.
