The Core Campus Project, which transformed the center of the Fairfax Campus, is wrapping up after five-plus years of planning and construction.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo has not seen peace for more than three decades, but in November 2021, �鶹��Ƶ’s Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution helped the country take a leap in a hopeful direction. In the province of South Kivu, the school gathered representatives from 21 armed groups, the Congolese government, military, police, intelligence services, religious leaders, civil society groups, and peace advocates. Not only did everyone discuss a path toward peacebuilding, but they also signed a peace accord to solidify it.

�鶹��Ƶ has named Kimberly Davidson as University Ombudsperson, a new position within the university.

Solving climate change is a grand challenge facing the planet. As more individuals and leaders are recognizing the need to switch to environmentally friendly practices, �鶹��Ƶ’s Local Climate Change Planning Initiative (LCCPI) is helping make that a reality for counties across Virginia. “Our vision is to have �鶹��Ƶ be the lead university in helping counties that lack the resources and expertise in [addressing climate change] get this done,” said Paul Bubbosh, a 1988 �鶹��Ƶ alumnus and adjunct professor at the Schar School and College of Science.

The meeting, which followed a walking tour of the construction site that will soon be transformed into a hub for the Innovation District in Arlington and the Innovation Pilot Space in Vernon Smith Hall, focused on ways that �鶹��Ƶ could strategically fill the growing need for tech talent in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area.

Amira Roess, professor of global health and epidemiology at �鶹��Ƶ’s College of Health and Human Services, and Angela Chezem, MD, medical director, COVID Surveillance Program (Safety, Emergency, and Enterprise Risk Management), offer advice to the �鶹��Ƶ community on omicron variant safety over the winter holiday season.

Shaza Andersen, a �鶹��Ƶ alumna and founder and CEO of Trustar Bank, will be the featured speaker at �鶹��Ƶ’s Winter Graduation this month.

Ginsberg was appointed interim provost in March 2020 by George �鶹��Ƶ interim President Anne Holton. That August, Washington named him to the position permanently for a two-year term to expire in August 2022. An 11-year veteran of �鶹��Ƶ, Ginsberg had served as dean of �鶹��Ƶ’s College of Education and Human Development since 2010.
