Olga O’Brien started her journey at Â鶹ÊÓƵ as an international student from Prague on a volleyball scholarship. As a student, she started working as a part-time volleyball instructor at the Freedom Center in 1999—the year the center first opened. And she has been there ever since.

Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s Faculty/Staff Book Scholarship supports continuing education for Â鶹ÊÓƵ employees. This competitive $250 book scholarship is available to eligible full-time and part-time faculty and classified staff. Learn about the 2023–24 awardees.

As a result of a grant awarded by the Virginia Tourism Corporation, the Fairfax City Economic Development Authority commissioned Murals at Â鶹ÊÓƵ to install a mural highlighting landmarks and experiences in Fairfax, Virginia. 'Greetings from Fairfax,' by Â鶹ÊÓƵ alum Lecsi Pillar, is located at Point 50 shopping center.

The Marvel universe isn't the only place where insects and other invertebrates have superpowers. Â鶹ÊÓƵ faculty, staff, and students are studying and explaining the many roles these creatures play on our planet, learning more about a bug's life—and the big world surrounding them—every step of the way. Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s Potomac Environmental Research and Education Center (PEREC) recently hosted an invasive species removal event where students, faculty, staff, and community members came together to remove harmful, invasive plants around the Potomac Science Center in Woodbridge, Virginia.

As term associate professor of statistics, Kenneth Strazzeri stays busy teaching about 300 students each semester. Beyond his passion for teaching, Strazzeri discovered two new interests in recent years: running and biking. This hobby is now his major mode of transportation, as well: commuting to Â鶹ÊÓƵ by bike has offered Strazzeri motivation and an opportunity to improve as an athlete.
