Two members of George Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's academic advising community were honored with regional awards from the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) this spring. We asked Barbara Snyder, director of student success and academic advising in the Costello College of Business, to share some insights her experiences in academic advising and what it means to be recognized for her work. She received NACADA's award for Excellence in Advising—Advising Administrator.

The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Police Department recently installed a soft interview room on campus to support survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. With support from Project Beloved: The Molly Jane Mission, a nonprofit organization, the soft interview room provides a critical component of trauma informed care to the campus community.

The Governor’s School at Innovation Park, located at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Science and Technology Campus, holds a special distinction: It’s Virginia’s only academic-year Governor’s School located on a four-year college campus. That means that high school juniors and seniors spend part of each school day experiencing life as Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ students. The Governor’s School at Innovation Park celebrates its 15th anniversary this year.

Through a new solar array at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Fairfax Campus, the sun will play double-duty in the successful growth of plants. Solar energy will power the President’s Park Greenhouse with the electricity it needs to support the plants growing inside.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Outstanding Achievement Awards celebrate the hard work and accomplishments of faculty and staff in support of the university's values and mission. Awards are sponsored by Human Resources and other university departments. A ceremony honoring this year’s awardees was hosted on the Fairfax Campus on Tuesday, April 15.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Potomac Science Center on Belmont Bay is a destination for environmental science research within the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Slightly inland from shore, on a recent day in early March, the retention pond next to the center needed to be emptied to make changes to the drainage system. The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Nation was ready to rescue some of the creatures affected.
