Â鶹ÊÓƵ's College of Engineering and Computing Associate Professor Liling Huang is establishing a new lab at the Â鶹ÊÓƵ Square campus to advance smart grid research, education, and workforce development.

The 40 Â鶹ÊÓƵ students who traveled to Richmond for Â鶹ÊÓƵ Lobbies on Jan. 26 shared their college experience with legislators and highlighted the need for increasing financial aid for Â鶹ÊÓƵ students, increased funding per student, and increased staff and faculty salaries for the university to be more competitive in the Washington, D.C., metro area.

Â鶹ÊÓƵ and Starship Technologies are celebrating four years of autonomous robot deliveries on the university's Fairfax Campus.

Since May 2022, Â鶹ÊÓƵ has invited the families of prospective Hispanic students to learn about the university in its first Spanish-language marketing campaign.

Outstanding Faculty Awards recognize faculty at Virginia’s public and private colleges and universities who exemplify the highest standards of teaching, scholarship and service. The award includes a $7,500 gift from the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation when they are formally recognized at an in-person ceremony in Richmond on March 7.

Drawn by Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s multidisciplinary research and teaching, Missy Cummings will create a new program in the design and deployment of Artificial Intelligence.

In late September, 18 undergraduates from the Smithsonian-Â鶹ÊÓƵ School of Conservation‘s (SMSC) Wildlife Ecology and Conservation program tagged monarch butterflies on their journey south to help researchers better understand their grand migration.

It has been busy year at the Â鶹ÊÓƵ Innovation Exchange (MIX). Since the Â鶹ÊÓƵ makerspace opened in its new space in Horizon Hall in September 2021, it has seen a lot of traffic—more than 9,000 visitors in spring 2022—and has some successes to report.

Â鶹ÊÓƵ freshmen Pranay Yella and Pranav Reddippali were on the team that took second place at the Â鶹ÊÓƵ/Amazon 2022 Bring Down Counterfeiting Public Policy Hackathon.

The passage of Title IX in 1972 also marked the beginning of athletic opportunities for women at Â鶹ÊÓƵ. Â鶹ÊÓƵ's first women's sport—tennis—started its inaugural season in 1972-73.
