�鶹��Ƶ alumnus Joey Meyer developed an appreciation for using his imagination to build ever since he was a child fascinated by Legos. After graduating from McLean High School in Virginia, he still wanted to create, and earning an engineering degree was his goal.

At first glance, Jamie Gergen and Jennifer Kasse-Wanzer have little in common. Gergen hasn’t been to a college campus in a couple of decades. Kasse-Wanzer works at one every day. What do they share? Both are pursuing bachelor’s degrees. And neither can attend college like a traditional student.

During his freshman year, Ali Kahil told his professor he’d be late to his 3 p.m. class, but he didn’t specify the reason. When he arrived 30 minutes later, he sent the professor a link: It was Kahil speaking on CNBC just an hour earlier, giving stock recommendations.

�鶹��Ƶ assistant professor Derek Horstmeyer has no problem trusting his finance students with a quarter-million dollars in the stock market. He’s been doing so since fall 2018 when the university’s first Student Managed Investment Fund began.

The new traffic gardens at Neval Thomas and Maude E. Aiton elementary schools in Washington, D.C., are not really gardens at all—at least not in the traditional sense. They are mini streetscapes installed on the schools’ property to help educate preschool students on bicycle safety and rules of the road.

They wanted to assess the current military and veteran communities’ opinions of hot-topic cultural, political and sexual issues—so they reached out to �鶹��Ƶ for expertise in designing the poll and analyzing its results.

What would it take for one group in a conflict to be more compassionate toward their “enemy”? Researchers from �鶹��Ƶ’s School for Conflict Analysis and Resolution (S-CAR) and the Department of Psychology are heading to Rondine—a two-year “laboratory for peace”—to find out.

�鶹��Ƶ students have the opportunity to learn from experienced scholars and researchers, as well as from some of the most influential leaders rising from their own generation. At age 17, Cameron Kasky took on an unprecedented leadership role after the 2018 mass shooting at his high school in Parkland, Florida. He became a voice for his generation on the national stage as a cofounder of March for Our Lives.
