Solving climate change is a grand challenge facing the planet. As more individuals and leaders are recognizing the need to switch to environmentally friendly practices, �鶹��Ƶ’s Local Climate Change Planning Initiative (LCCPI) is helping make that a reality for counties across Virginia. “Our vision is to have �鶹��Ƶ be the lead university in helping counties that lack the resources and expertise in [addressing climate change] get this done,” said Paul Bubbosh, a 1988 �鶹��Ƶ alumnus and adjunct professor at the Schar School and College of Science.

Arturo Barrera is receiving his bachelor’s in conflict analysis and resolution. He said �鶹��Ƶ supported him before he was a freshman.

The meeting, which followed a walking tour of the construction site that will soon be transformed into a hub for the Innovation District in Arlington and the Innovation Pilot Space in Vernon Smith Hall, focused on ways that �鶹��Ƶ could strategically fill the growing need for tech talent in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area.

�鶹��Ƶ doctoral student Elizabeth Davis has received a prestigious American Educational Research Association (AERA) dissertation grant to help her research on newcomer schools in the United States.

Jessica Lammers, who will graduate with her master of public health on Dec. 16, found a job as an environmental health specialist with Fairfax County through her internship.

�鶹��Ƶ graduating senior Alex Lee devoted hours upon hours to attending networking events hosted by the School of Business. He talked to potential employers, asked questions, put himself out there.

Amira Roess, professor of global health and epidemiology at �鶹��Ƶ’s College of Health and Human Services, and Angela Chezem, MD, medical director, COVID Surveillance Program (Safety, Emergency, and Enterprise Risk Management), offer advice to the �鶹��Ƶ community on omicron variant safety over the winter holiday season.

Shaza Andersen, a �鶹��Ƶ alumna and founder and CEO of Trustar Bank, will be the featured speaker at �鶹��Ƶ’s Winter Graduation this month.

Patricia Tran became interested in health informatics while working as a nurse. She is now pursuing a Master of Health Informatics degree at �鶹��Ƶ, where she obtained an internship with Commonwealth Cyber Initiative (CCI) over the summer to research how 5G-enabled technology can transform telehealth care.

Ginsberg was appointed interim provost in March 2020 by George �鶹��Ƶ interim President Anne Holton. That August, Washington named him to the position permanently for a two-year term to expire in August 2022. An 11-year veteran of �鶹��Ƶ, Ginsberg had served as dean of �鶹��Ƶ’s College of Education and Human Development since 2010.

With the support of a grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, �鶹��Ƶ researchers Vivian Motti and Anya Evmenova have developed a smartwatch application that will help improve the daily lives of young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
