Beginning this year, the number of awards have been increased for full-time faculty members. The faculty cited for 2022 come from five �鶹��Ƶ schools.

�鶹��Ƶ mourns the recent passing of Jeng-Eng “Jerry” Lin, associate professor emeritus of mathematical sciences.

On Friday, June 3, more than 20 participants from business schools across the country joined �鶹��Ƶ marketing faculty for a day-long Marketing Research Symposium at the IDIA Classroom Space in Vernon Smith Hall, �鶹��Ƶ Square. In addition to research talks, there was a panel discussion on digital transformation in retail featuring three industry experts.

�鶹��Ƶ's Early Identification Program provides access to educational resources, mentoring and programming for students from seven local public school systems. In May, 112 high school seniors graduate from the program. Ninety-five of them have been admitted to college, including 41 who will be attending �鶹��Ƶ.

Melissa Broeckelman-Post ran unopposed this spring for a second one-year term as senate chair. Under her leadership, the senate formed the Task Force on Reimagining Faculty Roles and Rewards to better recognize ways that faculty contribute to the university through teaching, research, advising, community service, and other actions. The task force plans to have an implementation proposal this fall.

Incoming transfer students from Germanna are excited to join �鶹��Ƶ Nation through the �鶹��Ƶ Virginia Promise

�鶹��Ƶ and Germanna Community College have announced a new partnership bringing the first �鶹��Ƶ Academy program to Virginia students. The �鶹��Ƶ Academy is a localized guided degree transfer program that is in alliance with a Virginia community college and is part of the �鶹��Ƶ Virginia Promise (MVP) initiative.

The 15 students in the special topics class Facial Reconstruction started the semester with a generic plastic skull. Week by week, they sculpted different parts of their own faces, creating a portrait of themselves in clay and learning the forensic skills needed to put a face on a skull.

�鶹��Ƶ researcher Jenefir Isbister was awarded the university's first patent on August 27, 1996, for her invention of a test for microbial contamination.

In April, �鶹��Ƶ professor Mohamed Gebril took a team of students to Commonwealth Cyber Initiative's BattleDrones Competition.

The collection includes more than 850 linear feet of unprocessed materials that document the growth of the Appalachian Trail from a small confederation in 1925 to a volunteer-centered, fully staffed nonprofit with a unique mission and international support. The 2,194.3-mile trail spans the East Coast from Maine to Georgia.

�鶹��Ƶ’s Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC), known as “The Patriot Battalion,” began in 1982 and frequently conducts training with other universities throughout the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia.
