The College of Engineering and Computing at �鶹��Ƶ introduces four innovative graduate certificate programs in fall 2024, catering to burgeoning fields of mechanical engineering, computer science, systems engineering and operations research, and electrical and computer engineering. Professors leading each program provide insights into the curricula design, societal impact, and ideal candidates.

A recent SCHEV-conducted analysis of Virginia’s public four-year institutions shows �鶹��Ƶ topping or leading most peers in a variety of metrics, including growth, opportunity, value, efficiency, return on investment, and state economic impact. President Gregory Washington reviewed the data with the Board of Visitors at the governing body’s Feb. 22 meeting.

�鶹��Ƶ has retained its “green light” rating from the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE) and College Pulse, the organization’s highest rating for free speech protection. The foundation also had previously ranked George �鶹��Ƶ as No. 8 in the nation for protecting free speech rights.

On Feb. 22, Fall for the Book hosts 2024 Mini Fest with seven authors and five events that span the genre gambit on �鶹��Ƶ’s Fairfax Campus.

�鶹��Ƶ Facilities has installed 23 Bigbelly zero waste stations on the Fairfax and �鶹��Ƶ Square campuses. These solar-powered stations support �鶹��Ƶ’s recycling and composting goals through their user-friendly design, technology upgrades, and capacity-based alerts. 

�鶹��Ƶ has joined more than 200 of the nation’s leading artificial intelligence (AI) stakeholders to participate in a Department of Commerce initiative to support the development and deployment of trustworthy and safe AI.

Audiences at the Hylton Center will soon see a unique name adorning the halls of the Education and Rehearsal Wing. An anonymous donor has recently included the Hylton Center in their estate plans, and as such, the Hylton Center has recognized their outstanding generosity by naming the first of two classrooms in the Education and Rehearsal Hall the “Koko H. Beetle Classroom.”

Carter School Dean Alpaslan Özerdem recently returned from a peacebuilding initiative in South Sudan, where he was a guest of the Minister of Peacebuilding Stephen Par Kuol and NewGen Peacebuilders’ Executive Director Patricia Shafer.
