More than 500 students, nine sponsors, and 50 volunteers gathered on Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s Fairfax Campus for the fifth annual PatriotHacks hackathon from October 6-8. After working for 36 hours straight, student teams presented 70 projects to a panel of judges from the tech industry. 

The new Virginia Climate Center (VCC) at Â鶹ÊÓƵ is leading research on tackling climate-related challenges, such as energy, vector-borne illnesses, and extreme weather and flooding in Northern Virginia and throughout the commonwealth.

It isn’t surprising the Â鶹ÊÓƵ, a university that has been recognized for its innovation and entrepreneurship, would be among the top 100 universities in United States for patents. This fall, the National Academy of Inventors ranked Â鶹ÊÓƵ No. 91 in its list of the top 100 universities granted patents during 2022.

When his 11-year-old daughter started showing interest in college, first-year student Jimmy Stewart saw an opportunity to demonstrate the importance of higher education by finally getting his bachelor’s degree.

ARTS by George! returned on Saturday, September 30, 2023, hosted by the College of Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA) at Â鶹ÊÓƵ. The benefit event, which was headlined by GRAMMY and Tony Award winner Renée Elise Goldsberry, raised more than $275,000 for student scholarships in visual arts, dance, music, theater, game design, film, arts management, as well as for the Â鶹ÊÓƵ Community Arts Academy, Green Machine Ensembles, and the Great Performances at Â鶹ÊÓƵ season at the Center for the Arts.

The Â鶹ÊÓƵ community gathered Sept. 28 to celebrate the launch of the university’s largest comprehensive campaign in its history, Â鶹ÊÓƵ Now: Power the Possible. The event at Merten Hall was dedicated to the people who work every day to drive Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s success: the university’s faculty and staff.

Fairfax City and Â鶹ÊÓƵ have partnered to give students access to experiential learning opportunities that will benefit local businesses and students.

Elected officials, economic developers, and small business owners operating in the LENOWISCO Planning District gathered Sept. 20 in Scott County to highlight the importance of Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s support of small businesses innovators through its Small Business Development Centers.
