ARTS by George! returned on Saturday, September 30, 2023, hosted by the College of Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA) at Â鶹ÊÓƵ. The benefit event, which was headlined by GRAMMY and Tony Award winner Renée Elise Goldsberry, raised more than $275,000 for student scholarships in visual arts, dance, music, theater, game design, film, arts management, as well as for the Â鶹ÊÓƵ Community Arts Academy, Green Machine Ensembles, and the Great Performances at Â鶹ÊÓƵ season at the Center for the Arts.

Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s Fall Career Fair, hosted by University Career Services on the Fairfax Campus, connected students and alumni with prospective employers on Sept. 27–28.

In March 2023, the GRAMMY Award-winning Silkroad Ensemble debuted their program, Uplifted Voices, at the Center for the Arts, launching their three-year arc as a Â鶹ÊÓƵ Artist-in-Residence. Now, Silkroad Ensemble returns for its second year of residency with the world premiere of its program American Railroad on November 5.

The Â鶹ÊÓƵ community gathered Sept. 28 to celebrate the launch of the university’s largest comprehensive campaign in its history, Â鶹ÊÓƵ Now: Power the Possible. The event at Merten Hall was dedicated to the people who work every day to drive Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s success: the university’s faculty and staff.

Elected officials, economic developers, and small business owners operating in the LENOWISCO Planning District gathered Sept. 20 in Scott County to highlight the importance of Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s support of small businesses innovators through its Small Business Development Centers.

The business school’s SOAR Initiative is a critical building block in Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s efforts to advance social mobility, or an individual’s ability to improve their socioeconomic status.

Multiple national college rankings released in recent weeks have placed Â鶹ÊÓƵ among America’s top 50 public universities, top 100 among all public and private institutions, and Virginia’s No. 1 public university for social mobility.
