President Gregory Washington joined a group of Virginia government, education and community leaders at the General Services Administration in Washington, D.C., on Thursday to promote the commonwealth as the best site for the new FBI headquarters.

�鶹��Ƶ President Gregory Washington told the Board of Visitors (BOV) on Thursday, Feb. 23, that “there may not be a better place in the state to make an investment” than �鶹��Ƶ.

Nearly two dozen �鶹��Ƶ faculty members, from seven �鶹��Ƶ schools and colleges, provided their expertise to the 120 Initiative, an all-hands-on-deck effort from the 18 institutions in the Consortium of Universities of the Washington Metropolitan Area to find solutions to reduce gun violence.

�鶹��Ƶ President Gregory Washington has been elected into the National Academy of Engineering, the highest engineering honor in the country, the academy announced Tuesday.

�鶹��Ƶ capped its 50th anniversary year by honoring more than 5,000 graduates at Winter Commencement, celebrating an esteemed class that bridges �鶹��Ƶ to its second half-century as an independent university.

More than 5,000 students will graduate with degrees or certificates in �鶹��Ƶ’s Winter Commencement ceremony at 10 a.m. today at EagleBank Arena.

UMGC President Gregory W. Fowler, who will speak at �鶹��Ƶ’s Winter Commencement on Thursday, December 15, discusses how �鶹��Ƶ influenced his career path, the future of online learning, UMGC’s shared commitment to diversity and accessibility, and the gift of listening.

�鶹��Ƶ's five-year plan, titled “�鶹��Ƶ Is All Together Different,” received BOV approval at the governing body’s Dec. 1 meeting. The plan identifies five broad priorities, with specific strategies and actions for each.

University of Maryland Global Campus President Gregory W. Fowler, a �鶹��Ƶ alumnus and national leader in online and hybrid education for nontraditional students, will be the featured speaker at Winter Commencement next month.

�鶹��Ƶ’s first Anti-Racism and Inclusive Excellence (ARIE) Conference on October 24 celebrated both the impact of research and the shared goal of shaping a more equitable future.
