�鶹��Ƶ's Board of Visitors last week approved the renaming of the School of Business to the Donald G. Costello College of Business to better reflect the unit’s size and stature. The business school was initially named in honor of Costello, a late Northern Virginia entrepreneur, in April, retaining the “school” designation.

Mark Ginsberg has been the Senior Vice President and Provost of �鶹��Ƶ since September 2020 and before that served as dean of the College of Education and Human Development.

�鶹��Ƶ's Board of Visitors last week officially welcomed four new members, including two alumni and a member returning to the board after two decades. The board also elected new officers.

�鶹��Ƶ Korea Dean Robert Matz returned to �鶹��Ƶ’s Fairfax Campus to spread the word about the many good things going on at �鶹��Ƶ Korea.

�鶹��Ƶ is working with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to develop a course in data center engineering and expand the opportunities in its senior capstone courses.

Led by the Office of Annual Giving, �鶹��Ƶ Vision Day 2023, held on April 6, highlighted the challenges posed by student food insecurity—which is a growing issue at �鶹��Ƶ and at college campuses across the nation. This year, �鶹��Ƶ Vision Day raised $290,000 for �鶹��Ƶ causes with nearly $90,000 dedicated to student food insecurity.

In May 2023, �鶹��Ƶ honored philanthropist Diane Portnoy with an honorary doctor of humane letters, given in recognition of her extraordinary contribution to society and decades of service in support of immigrants and refugees.

On June 28, Dean Fernando Miralles-Wilhelm, U.S. Representative Gerry Connolly, and James Kinter, director of �鶹��Ƶ’s Center for Ocean-Land-Atmosphere Studies, discussed how the Virginia Climate Center is helping communities increase resilience to the impacts of climate change.

Nearly 100 student representatives and 20 advisors from 13 Fairfax County public high schools gathered on �鶹��Ƶ’s Fairfax Campus in June for a day of workshops and team-building activities to support the peer-led student ambassadors program.
