In addition to being named to Oprah Magazine’s list of Native American Authors to Read Right Now, �鶹��Ƶ alum Kelli Jo Ford’s debut novel, “Crooked Hallelujah,” was recently named one of the best books of 2020 by Publishers Weekly and is on the longlist for the 2021 Carnegie Medal for Fiction, among other accolades.

Paul E. Misener, a scientist, lawyer, engineer and innovator will be the featured speaker at �鶹��Ƶ’s 2023 Winter Commencement ceremony. The ceremony will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, in EagleBank Arena on the Fairfax Campus.

Andrew Opitz first came to �鶹��Ƶ as a freshman over a decade ago. After taking a hiatus from school, he graduated from the Film and Video Studies (FAVS) Program in May 2023. Opitz’s film, Jazz, which he directed for his senior capstone, was a semi-finalist in the Student Academy Awards Alternative/Experimental category.

For more than 30 years, the Celebration of Distinction has recognized the outstanding achievements of �鶹��Ƶ’s alumni, faculty members, and students. This year’s event, hosted by the �鶹��Ƶ Alumni Association on Oct. 20, once again focused on elevating and honoring �鶹��Ƶ excellence.

�鶹��Ƶ alum Alex Hussein (BS Information Systems and Operations Management ‘21), who is also known as @DC Spot, shares his recommendations for a few must-go-restaurants in local Fairfax. Alex is a food influencer with over 215,000 Instagram followers. His videos feature eateries throughout the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia areas.
