Paul E. Misener, a scientist, lawyer, engineer and innovator will be the featured speaker at Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s 2023 Winter Commencement ceremony. The ceremony will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, in EagleBank Arena on the Fairfax Campus.

Andrew Opitz first came to Â鶹ÊÓƵ as a freshman over a decade ago. After taking a hiatus from school, he graduated from the Film and Video Studies (FAVS) Program in May 2023. Opitz’s film, Jazz, which he directed for his senior capstone, was a semi-finalist in the Student Academy Awards Alternative/Experimental category.

For more than 30 years, the Celebration of Distinction has recognized the outstanding achievements of Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s alumni, faculty members, and students. This year’s event, hosted by the Â鶹ÊÓƵ Alumni Association on Oct. 20, once again focused on elevating and honoring Â鶹ÊÓƵ excellence.

Â鶹ÊÓƵ alum Alex Hussein (BS Information Systems and Operations Management ‘21), who is also known as @DC Spot, shares his recommendations for a few must-go-restaurants in local Fairfax. Alex is a food influencer with over 215,000 Instagram followers. His videos feature eateries throughout the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia areas.

Microsoft Chief Technology Officer of Worldwide & Defense Intelligence Kate Maxwell is an alum of Â鶹ÊÓƵ, where she studied systems engineering. Following a love of coding, she pursued engineering and tech, and urges women interested in STEM to go for what they want.

Â鶹ÊÓƵ Alumni Association’s annual Celebration of Distinction recognizes outstanding alumni, faculty members, and students. This year’s celebration was held October 20 at the Hilton McLean Tysons Corner.
