Smialek, a single mother of one daughter, has been juggling parenting, teaching or going to school and her work as an Air National Guard medic for a while.

�鶹��Ƶ announced today a grant from Break Through Tech to propel more students who identify as women and non-binary into tech education—and ultimately tech careers—through curriculum innovation, career access, and community building. The goal of the grant is to increase the number of these students graduating with a tech degree at �鶹��Ƶ by 12.5 percentage points by 2026.

The Greenhouse and Gardens Program—which runs the Presidents Park Hydroponic Greenhouse, the Innovation Food Forest and the Potomac Heights Organic Vegetable Garden—is building off a successful fall semester that provided students with a hands-on learning experience.

�鶹��Ƶ two dozen �鶹��Ƶ students took part in the ninth annual �鶹��Ƶ Lobbies on Wednesday, Feb. 3, discussing issues with lawmakers from across the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Junior Dominique Dowling has been working to enact social change since high school. She joined the GMU NAACP chapter in her second year at �鶹��Ƶ, and now she is the group’s vice president. Through the chapter, she has been involved in numerous panels and committees, which inspired her to do more anti-racism work on campus.“Being part of the NAACP has exposed me to different initiatives and people who have been doing this work for years,” said the integrative studies major. “It made me realize that anti-racism work requires an ongoing dedication because there is always work to be done.”
