Though things have changed since �鶹��Ƶ’s Department of Social Work began 50 years ago, one constant is its focus on the many aspects that impact health and well-being: housing, work, physical health, mental health, finances, and social support.

In January, Nikyatu Jusu, assistant professor of directing and screenwriting in �鶹��Ƶ’s Film and Video Studies Program, had her first feature film, “Nanny,” premier at the Sundance Film Festival, where she was awarded the Grand Jury Prize.

On Nov. 24, 1985, �鶹��Ƶ women's soccer defeated North Carolina 2-0 to claim the first-ever NCAA National Championship at �鶹��Ƶ.

As a part of �鶹��Ƶ’s 50th Anniversary celebration this year, the University Libraries’ Special Collection Research Center (SCRC) is sharing some documents, artifacts, and photography from the archives in its new exhibition “We Are �鶹��Ƶ: A Student History.”

�鶹��Ƶ alum Charniele L. Herring has made history with her barrier-breaking career in Virginia state politics.

On June 10, 2010, �鶹��Ƶ opened the Biomedical Research Laboratory (BRL) on the Science and Technology Campus in Prince William County. Here, �鶹��Ƶ researchers have been able to advance their groundbreaking work on the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of infectious diseases.
