Solving climate change is a grand challenge facing the planet. As more individuals and leaders are recognizing the need to switch to environmentally friendly practices, �鶹��Ƶ’s Local Climate Change Planning Initiative (LCCPI) is helping make that a reality for counties across Virginia.

“Our vision is to have �鶹��Ƶ be the lead university in helping counties that lack the resources and expertise in [addressing climate change] get this done,” said Paul Bubbosh, a 1988 �鶹��Ƶ alumnus and adjunct professor at the Schar School and College of Science.

The meeting, which followed a walking tour of the construction site that will soon be transformed into a hub for the Innovation District in Arlington and the Innovation Pilot Space in Vernon Smith Hall, focused on ways that �鶹��Ƶ could strategically fill the growing need for tech talent in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area.

Amira Roess, professor of global health and epidemiology at �鶹��Ƶ’s College of Health and Human Services, and Angela Chezem, MD, medical director, COVID Surveillance Program (Safety, Emergency, and Enterprise Risk Management), offer advice to the �鶹��Ƶ community on omicron variant safety over the winter holiday season.

Shaza Andersen, a �鶹��Ƶ alumna and founder and CEO of Trustar Bank, will be the featured speaker at �鶹��Ƶ’s Winter Graduation this month.

Ginsberg was appointed interim provost in March 2020 by George �鶹��Ƶ interim President Anne Holton. That August, Washington named him to the position permanently for a two-year term to expire in August 2022. An 11-year veteran of �鶹��Ƶ, Ginsberg had served as dean of �鶹��Ƶ’s College of Education and Human Development since 2010.

Most people with access to a 3D printer find themselves creating small objects or gadgets. But one student group working at the MIX at �鶹��Ƶ each Friday is driven by a different dream.

“We build, design, test and plan to compete in solar-powered car competitions,” said Michael Riggi, president of �鶹��Ƶ’s solar car team, HyperNova Solar. “[We believe] our car, when complete, will be the world’s first and only 3D-printed solar car.”
