With thousands of people and countless opportunities, there’s a lot to take in at Virginia’s largest public research university. To help �鶹��Ƶ students find community and boost their on-campus experience, Housing and Residence Life created Learning Communities (LC), where students with common interests live and learn together during the academic year.

Democracy Lab is one of the newest LCs. More than 60 freshmen from the Schar School of Policy and Government are enrolled for its inaugural year.

International graffiti artist TakerOne is working on a mural, “Fauna of Belmont Bay,” at �鶹��Ƶ’s Potomac Science Center in Woodbridge, Virginia.

�鶹��Ƶ officials are encouraging those who are eligible to go ahead and schedule their third COVID-19 vaccine doses or booster shots to best help keep the entire community safe.

Patricia Engel’s novel “Infinite Country” is the winner of the 2021 Institute for Immigration Research New American Voices Award.

�鶹��Ƶ President Gregory Washington thanked the university community at the Board of Visitors (BOV) meeting on Thursday for its efforts to manage the pandemic and shifted focus toward the goals he announced in July to “transform the campus and move it from a good campus to a great one.”

U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris visited �鶹��Ƶ’s Fairfax Campus on Tuesday to speak to students on the importance of voting, in commemoration of National Voter Registration Day.

Before appearing to hundreds of students gathered on Wilkins Plaza, the vice president spoke to Assistant Professor Samuel Frye’s integrative studies class, “Community, Culture and Change,” as a surprise guest speaker.

�鶹��Ƶ welcomed its largest freshman class for the Fall 2021 semester, which was part of the largest-ever entry of new degree-seeking undergraduates.

�鶹��Ƶ will celebrate �鶹��Ƶ’s eighth president, Gregory Washington, with a week of activities and a special investiture ceremony in EagleBank Arena on Thursday, Oct. 21, at 1 p.m.
