On Oct. 26, ArtsFairfax honored the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at �鶹��Ƶ with its Education Award for providing exceptional arts education and opportunities to the community.

The big winners of a two-month-long competition to create innovative ways to combat counterfeiting were �鶹��Ƶ students and alumni—and the world at large. See who won the thousands in prize money in the Bring Down Counterfeiting Hackathon 2023 and who helped sponsor it.

Melissa Perry, dean of �鶹��Ƶ’s College of Public Health, is an ardent proponent of virtual reality as a tool to help solve the nation’s health challenges. But she also worries that technology has helped create an “epidemic of loneliness” that has heightened the importance of a shared humanity and “being present for each other.”

George A. Akerlof, who shared the 2001 Nobel Memorial Prize for Economic Sciences with Michael Spence and Joseph Stiglitz, gave this year's Haynes Lecture.

The Movers and Shakers Mixer event returned to �鶹��Ƶ Square in late September, connecting �鶹��Ƶ students with Arlington’s business, government, and community leaders.

�鶹��Ƶ students are taking pictures of the campus flora, fauna, and fungi with their smartphones—sometimes in the dark—to capture the university’s biodiversity. They are trying to record as many species as possible in this fall's Bioblitz 2023, which continues through Nov. 19.

Paul E. Misener, a scientist, lawyer, engineer and innovator will be the featured speaker at �鶹��Ƶ’s 2023 Winter Commencement ceremony. The ceremony will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, in EagleBank Arena on the Fairfax Campus.

An event on Nov. 3 at the �鶹��Ƶ Square campus celebrated the "topping out" of the Fuse building, meaning the structural frame of the building is complete.

�鶹��Ƶ has been recognized as a Bicycle Friendly University by the League of American Bicyclists for promoting safe, accessible bicycling on campus. The League of American Bicyclists is a grassroots advocacy organization encouraging better bicycling and protecting the rights of people who bike.
