The Search Process

In December 2025, President Washington announced the Provost Search Committee to the university community.

The 21 representatives include faculty, administrative leaders, students, staff, and a member of the Board of Visitors. 

Search Roadmap:

Preparation Phase
  • President Washington names Dr. Ajay Vinze as the Interim Provost
  • Search committee selected and announced
  • Search firm identified to facilitate the overall search process
Planning Phase (current)
  • Committee reviews previous provost search listening session feedback, last year's Faculty Evaluation of Administrators data, and recent COACHE data to get broad input on campus needs and interceptions
  • Formal position profile drafted
  • Search web page is created to serve as the primary source of information
  • Ads placed to announce position
Evaluation phase
  • Committee screens, reviews nominees and applicants
  • Committee selects candidates for first-round interviews
  • Committee and President Washington interview candidates (airport interviews)
  • Top candidates invited to participate in on-campus interviews
Selection Phase
  • Committee recommends and presents unranked list of two to four finalists to the President
  • President selects and announces next provost
  • New provost introduced to the George Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ community
