Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Scholarships

Applying for a scholarship at George Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ could not be easier. Scholarships are considered free money that will help you pay for college expenses.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Foundation Scholarships

All continuing undergraduates, admitted transfers, and graduate students can review and apply for Foundation Scholarship opportunities offered through the . The application process may vary by college or department. Students should contact their respective departments for further information about the scholarships offered through their program.

Incoming Freshmen

Incoming undergraduate students may apply for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Foundation Scholarships once they enroll in classes for fall or spring semesters. Foundation Scholarship awards are based on a combination of merit, financial need, and availability. Some Foundation Scholarships are renewable provided students maintain eligibility by completing their requirements. 

Notification of Foundation Scholarships for incoming freshman students occur on a rolling basis. Students selected for the award will receive an official letter via email from the department or award committee. Recipients may view their awards on Patriot Web in the Financial Aid Awards section.

Continuing & Transfer Undergraduate Students

  • Must be admitted to the university
  • Must enroll for the upcoming academic year
  • Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75

Graduate Students

  • Must be admitted to the university
  • Must enroll for the upcoming academic year
  • Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0

Application Overview:

The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Scholarship Application includes both merit-based and financial need-based internal scholarships. Consideration for need-based scholarships requires the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the Virginia Alternative State Aid application (VASA) by March 1 (or March 15 for transfer students). 

  • To access the online application, students must use their Patriot Pass login credentials (NetID username and password).
  • Some applications require resumes and other documents. Please ensure ample time for additional documents to be completed and submitted by the designated deadline.
  • We recommend typing your essays in a word processing program to take advantage of spell check and word count. Once you are done, just copy and paste your text into the application.

Eligibility and Accessing the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Scholarship Application

Student Eligibility 

Continuing & Transfer Undergraduate Students

  • Admitted to the university
  • Must enroll for the upcoming academic year
  • Have a minimum Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ cumulative GPA of 2.75 

Graduate Students

  • Admitted to the university
  • Must enroll for the upcoming academic year
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 

Incoming Undergraduate Student

  • Must be enrolled for the upcoming academic year
  • Limited opportunities – most scholarship opportunities require a George Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ GPA

 

Merit and Need-based Scholarships

The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Scholarship Application includes both merit-based and financial need-based internal scholarships. 

For need-based scholarships, applicants must submit:

  • The , on file by the Financial Aid Office priority deadline of March 1, but no later than 14 days before the opportunity closing date.
  • Virginia residents who are undocumented or have DACA status may file by March 1, but no later than 14 days before the opportunity closing date.

 

Accessing the Application

  1. .
  2. Sign in with the institution using your Patriot Pass NetID (username and password).
  3. Follow the prompts on screen to apply. All fields marked with an asterisk (*) are required for completion.
  4. Sign the Release of Information.
  5. After completing the general application, applicants may be directed to a conditional application or other recommended opportunities.
    • A conditional application is used by academic departments and colleges to target its student population and may require the student to complete additional questions.
      • Unless you have fully completed the questions, you may not be considered eligible for those specific scholarships.
    • Applicant records (college, major, GPA, etc.) are updated monthly or weekly depending on the time of year. For questions, contact gmusch@gmu.edu.
  6. To apply to "other recommended opportunities," select the "Apply" button.
    • This list represents scholarship opportunities for which you may meet initial eligibility and must complete supplemental questions for consideration.
    • This list only shows scholarships that require supplemental questions.
  7. Once you have selected apply, you will be able to see supplemental questions or documents needed to complete the application process for that particular scholarship. Select "Finish and Submit" when finished.

 

How to Check the Status of Your Application

  • Students may access the application portal at any time to view their submitted application(s), upload supplemental documents, accept or decline an award, or check the status of an application.
  • Notification of Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's Foundation Scholarships begins in mid-June and continues on a rolling basis.
  • Many departments and committees award scholarships at George Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ, ONLY students, selected for the award will receive an official letter via email or mail from the department or award committee.
  • Recipients may view their awards on Patriot Web on their Financial Aid Dashboard.
  • Submission of the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Scholarship Application does not guarantee funding.

Students are encouraged to log in to AcademicWorks to see the status of their scholarship application. If the application is submitted correctly, the General Application will show up as ‘Submitted’ on the Dashboard.

If the application is not submitted correctly or is still in draft status, the General Application will show up as ‘Required Questions’ and/or ‘Drafted’.
 

Problems Logging into the Application

  • If you encounter problems with your Patriot Pass NetID (username and password), use the "Need Help" link on the login screen to contact George Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's IT Support. 
  • If you encounter problems with the application other than your Patriot Pass NetID, contact the scholarship team at gmusch@gmu.edu
