Summary click path:  add block > create a custom block > Featured Image

Supporting components - sidebar CTAs, featured images - can be added to a news item page when the page is in layout mode.   

This example uses ‘Featured Image’ - but the same process is used for any component block

Page View Mode

• To get into page view:

• Find and click the 'Content' button located in the upper left corner, to the right of the blue ‘Drupal 8’ logo. 
• Use the filter controls to display only news items
• Locate the news item to be edited 
• Click its corresponding ‘Edit’ button to the right of the item title 
• At the ‘Edit News Story’ screen, click the ‘Customize Page’ near the top of the edit window to switch to page view mode

Add a Component Block

• Click ‘add block’ at the bottom of the section container
• From the ‘Choose a Block Menu’ select ‘Create a Custom Block’
• From exposed block menu, select ‘Featured image’

Fill out fields

• Title 
• Select or upload image
• Headline (optional)
• Photo credit
• Caption 

Choose a display style

• Text Overlaid: headline, caption and photo credit display near the middle part of the image without a shaded background
• Caption Below: headline, caption and photo credit display near the middle part of the image without a shaded background

Place on page

• Click the ‘update’ button
• Drag and drop the featured image block to desired location on the page
• Remember to click the ‘Save layout’ button on top of the content area
